I purchased a house in December so naturally I did not try the air conditioning unit outside unitl the last couple of days. I do not have a heat pump just a Trane XE 1000 air unit. The thermastat is one that you have to program and I have not been able to do that very well. I noticed the house not cooling down but yet I could hear the furnace running so stupid me thought everything was ok until I noticed that the unit outside was not running. I checked the breakers on the inside of the house and also the breaker outside near the unit but nothing so far is working. Could it be something about not programing the thermastat correctly or is it more likely something wrong with the air conditioner?

Victorian fireplaces are still very popular nowadays because they make every home cosy and exclusive due to their unique beauty. Although the original ones are not affordable to most people there is a huge of less expensive reproduction Victorian fireplaces on the market – many of them are almost indistinguishable from their antique counterparts. The efficient and economic friendly reproduction electric Victorian fireplace is widely available, here are the advantages of choosing it

There is a wide range of electric Victorian fires to suit every taste and budget, and these can be matched with any traditional Victorian fireplace insert and mantel – whether original or reproduction. Electric Victorian fireplace packages are also available including the fireplace insert and the surround.

All electric Victorian fires are powered by an efficient 2Kw heater; enough to provide heating throughout the spring and autumn months without the need for central heating. Special heat settings are adjustable on most electric fires.

Many electric Victorian fires are invisible sitting behind a fret and being covered with real coal, giving a lifelike natural look and warmth. Technology has ensured that electric fires now look as realistic as coal fires: sometimes, people cannot tell the difference! An obvious advantage of having an electric fire is that, because the warmth is generated by heater, you can enjoy the warm, comforting glow of a ‘real’ fire at any time without the heat, simply by flipping a button!

Electric fires are extremely simple to install – they simply plug into a standard plug socket. They are also relatively cheap to use, particularly if the fire is mainly used on ‘flame only’.

In our environmentally conscious world, electric heating is the ideal solution. Electric fires are environmentally friendly, as, unlike the gas fire, they have no carbon emissions. Many popular electric fireplace models also include several energy saving devices, such as room sensors to adjust the heat of the fire when the room reaches its ideal temperature.

Best of all, an electric Victorian fireplace allows those who only have electric power to their homes to experience the traditional atmosphere, comfort and warmth of a coal fire.

We’ve got an old house with no air conditioning. It’s about 98 degrees outside and the house is getting HOT. We’ve got fans running in the rooms we are in and turn them off when we leave the room. Should we leave the windows open to help get air circulating (but let in the outside heat), or close them (keeping the already hot air in, but the super hot oustide air out)?
Best answer could help lots of people during all these heat waves.
Thanks.

It started last week. At first I thought it was coming from my neighbors. Then I opened up the ulitity closet and was hit with a smell like there was a deep fryer in the closet. The apartment repairman says he couldn’t find anything wrong and it’s nothing. But he did replace the filter. That didn’t help. When I take off the access panel, I don’t see any soot or ashes or anything that looks out of place. There’s nothing in the blower compartment either. It doesn’t smell like gas, it smells like a deep fat fryer. What could it be? I’m tired of my apartment smelling like the kitchen of a fast food joint.

I am looking at a house that has the good old radiators for heat and the current owners use room air conditioners in each bedroom. Someone told me a solution to this would be to install high velocity air conditioning as it does not require massive installation of duct work. I am wondering how efficient it is and how expensive it is. I would be cooling an area that is about 1000 square feet–basically a living room, kitchen and 3 bedrooms. Also, how energy efficient are those old radiators. I have heard that they are very good at keeping the house warm–but are they expensive, can you put timers on them like you do with forced air heat, are they energy hogs?
