- Solar power is the most energy efficient. It may not be the cheapest to install, but is the "most" efficient.
- I agree with the answer "Solar". Nest to that, ground-water or ground-loop heat pump. Pellet stoves are said to be inexpensive to use, if you want a burning type of fuel.
- Call your local mechanical inspector for your town. They will be able to tell you the most efficient method of heating for your area.
- Wood burning stoves are hard to beat cost wise especially as with a bit of effort you can hunt & gather for free. How you contain the heat is more relevant to efficiency than the fuel you choose.Insulation is the key factor, but ventilation must always be in the equasion. The ultimate thing in efficiency is simply to wear suitable clothing, how do you think Eskimos survive.
- Geothermal in conjunction with underfloor heating ,and solar panels heating your hot water after the initial out lay is the most efficient way of heating home and water , on the geo side ,you can get up to 4 times the kw output per kw input in electricity ,on the water side 100s depending on the sun
